Braid the most beautiful cords, necklaces and bracelets with this kumihimo loom or braiding loom. Kumihimo is a Japanese braiding technique that has traditionally been used to weave cords in beautiful patterns (for example for kimonos), but instead of the traditional wooden loom, there is now this lightweight, portable and easy-to-use braiding loom available. Virtually any type of thread can be used for braiding, from thread designed specifically for kumihimo (cut into ready-to-use threads) to (mouliné) embroidery threads, pearl threads, satin cord, ribbons, and regular crochet and knitting cotton. It would be great to also experiment with beads, special-effect threads and metallic threads! Kumihimo looms are available in various shapes and sizes: round (or octagonal) and square. There are a number of slits around the edge in which the braiding threads are fixed. Because the threads have to be moved each time, we recommend that there are more slits in the loom than there are threads to braid. For instance, for a braid of 16 threads, choose a loom with 32 slits. The braid runs through the centre hole. The diameter of the hole therefore determines the maximum thickness of the braid (important when working with beads). Please note: the number of slits in the braiding loom is important for the thickness of the braid, not the size of the braiding loom itself. Our foam braiding looms are easy to hold, long lasting and ensure that the threads stay in place. This square kumihimo braiding loom with 32 slits measures 10 x 10cm and features a rectangular central hole measuring 11 x 21mm. Supplied per 10 pieces.

ROUND BRAIDING LOOMS

Round braiding looms are suitable for making round, square and flat braids. They have a round hole through which the braid runs. The slits in the edge are numbered - the corresponding number is always to the right of the slit. Furthermore, the north, south, east and west are indicated on the loom with four dots or a cross: with some braiding patterns, the threads should be set up on either side of those points.

SQUARE BRAIDING LOOMS

Square braiding looms are suitable for making flat braids. They have a rectangular hole in the centre through which the flat braid runs. There are a total of 32 slits along the four edges: 24 slits indicated by a number and 8 slits indicated by a letter.
